Updated Daily Makeup Routine

Hey beauties!
So last week I collaborated with Raeesa from Style Unboxed and we did our Updated Skincare Routine
This week we’ve done our updated daily makeup routine
Skincare and makeup go hand in hand

If you don’t look after your skin, your makeup will never look flawless.
So once you’ve gotten down your skincare basics, you can move onto perfecting your makeup.
These are the products I used daily to do my makeup (not necessarily the exact same product, I always switch up my foundation, concealer and bronzer, but the type of product stays the same)

These are just my current favorites, my recent go-tos

I will also mention a few others that I’ve been loving
If you would like to know how I do my makeup daily, just keep on reading!
Ok so after I’ve completed my skincare routine, I wait for my moisturizer/sunscreen to completely settle into my skin before starting with my foundation
And because my skin has been really good recently, I stick to a light to medium, natural coverage

I absolutely love the Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation!

It’s right at the top of my list! I’ve already been through an entire bottle and I’m on my 2nd and 3rd (coz I have 2 different shades)
It looks really natural on the skin and doesn’t look cakey

Another favorite , that has a similar finish and coverage is the Rimmel Match Perfection foundation
I then follow with some concealer under my eyes. If it’s not this 1, I gravitate towards the MAC Pro Longwear concealer

These 2 are my favorites

I don’t even need to set them coz they don’t crease on me, so that way I don’t loose any of the natural dewiness the foundation provided
I wait a minute or so before moving onto bronzer

My favorite at the moment is The Body Shop Honey Bronzer and I have the shade 2

I also really like the Bourjois Chocolate bronzer
I don’t wear blush on a daily basis, I prefer just to add some warmth and dimension to my face with some bronzer
And I can never go without some highlighter!

Highlighter is the whole point of my makeup!

I switch between natural looking highlights and super shimmery 1s, just depends on my mood

I picked up the MAC Soft n Gentle highlighter a while ago and I’ve been using it a lot!

It’s something that can be used lightly or built up

That’s what I love about it, and the fact that it suits so many skin tones
Next I move on to brows, another staple, I have to do my brows daily

And it’s actually weird because like a year ago, I NEVER did my brows
I like to use pencils and this 1 by LOV cosmetics is bomb, it reminds me of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer because it has the same angled, triangular shaped tip
I then set my brows with an eyebrow gel

The Benefit Gimme Brow is awesome! It’s tinted so you don’t even need to fill them in with a pencil beforehand, which I sometimes do

But it sets the brows in place nicely and they last all day!
The only things I use on my eyes daily is some eyeliner and mascara

And I gravitate towards brown because it’s softer and more flattering on my brown eyes

They enhance the eyes without being too strong or too dark

Mascara is a staple because they enhance and open up the eyes in the best way, and I mean, who doesn’t love long, luscious lashes?!

I’ve been loving the Benefit Roller Lash coz it curls the lashes and holds it as well
Lastly, I pop on some lipgloss or lip balm and I’m good to go!
I hardly wear lipsticks during the week, I find them too glam for a day to day basis

So I stick to lightly tinted and glossy lips

Sometimes to finish off the look, I spritz my face with some makeup setting spray and my makeup will last till the end of the night
I look put together without makeup much effort or taking that much time

I can comfortably do my makeup in 15 minutes max

All about – The Hayaa Box

Hey beauties
So I’ve been planning this post in my head for the past couple of months now and I am finally able to sit down and write.
If you follow us on the gram, you know that I attended the launch event of The Hayaa Box, the brainchild of Jowhara Mahomed

The Hayaa Box

It was held at the Green with Envy restaurant in Durban, which also has a separate haul, specifically for events like these
The entire set up was super cute and minimal

Jowhara Mahomed: Founder of The Hayaa Box

I thoroughly enjoyed everything about it, especially the socializing

I got to meet some very inspiring ladies, and got to put faces to the names of some
Most of all, it was such a pleasure to meet Jowhara, a huge thank you to her for the opportunity to attend and also feature my product in your very first box, wishing her all the best in this venture of hers ❤️

Psst, Jowhara was featured in the September issue of Marie Claire Magazine, how awesome is that?!

You go girl!

She also mentioned Vintage Beauty in her interview 🙌🏼

What exactly is the Hayaa box? You ask…
Basically, It is a monthly subscription box specifically aimed towards Muslim women, hence the name Hayaa, which means Modesty in Arabic

It’s rather exciting since it’s the first of its kind in South Africa
So like all other subscription boxes, you get a mix of goodies ranging from full size to samples

In every Hayaa box you will receive a gorgeous scarf, hijab accessories like pins and bands and some makeup and/or skincare samples

I was extremely thrilled when Jowhara told me that she wanted to feature Vintage Beauty in her very first box

It was an amazing opportunity to get my brand and product out there

Because, sometimes you are skeptical on whether to buy products, this way, you get it in your box with other amazing goodies, you have it, you can test it out, if you like it, you can purchase the full size, if not, no train smash!
So the 1st 3 boxes were themed as “Back to Basics”

Everyone needs a basic black, beige and grey scarf in their collection!

It goes with anything and everything and is easy to dress up or down
I am gaga over these scarves!

They are what I would call “maxi hijabs”

They are very broad and long, which is great to be able to create lots of different styles with it

They are cotton, super soft and sit well on the head, they don’t slip around and frame the face perfectly!

I personally love wearing it by folding it in half horizontally, that way it’s not too broad and also creates a more voluminous look instead of having a flat head hehe
Each box is launched at midnight on the 1st of each month and retails for R249 including delivery to your door

It’s a great way to grow your hijab collection and also gives you a chance to test out products you might just fall in love with!
Have you purchased a Hayaa box yet?

If not, what are you waiting for??

The September box is still available to purchase online, and their October box just went live on Monday, it comes with thee most gorgeous mint scarf that’s perfect to Spring 😍

Don’t forget to follow @thehayaabox on insta and post and tag them when you get your box ❤️

May 2016 Favorites

Hey ladies
Here are some of my favorite products that I’ve been constantly using and absolutely loving through the month of May (and longer)

May 2016 Favorites

Nivea Men’s Post Shave Balm

I know some of you guys would be completely confused as to why this is in this post

Well, you should search it on YouTube and see for yourself why you need to go out and buy yourself a bottle of this too! Lol
Thank you NikkieTutorials for this strange yet amazing discovery!

I use this as a primer and it really works to keep your makeup on for a really long time!
I swear every time I wear it and check my makeup after a couple of hours I’m completely blown away by how fresh it still looks!

So apparently because of the high Glycerine content in this product, when used as a primer, it makes your makeup stick, like glue! And so it lasts longer
So far I’ve found that it works great for both oily and dry skin, It wont dry skin out any further or accentuate dry patches and neither will it make you more oily, however it’s not gonna mattify your skin

Another reason why this is so awesome, it’s super cheap! For under R100 you get a HUGE bottle with 100ml of product!
Whereas you would pay close to, if not more that R200 for 30ml of any other primers on the market today

Give it a try, you have nothing to lose, if it doesn’t work for you, give it to the man in your life 😉

(Side Note: My hubby saw this on our dressing table the other day for the 1st time and was like 🤔 where did this come from??  haha)

And Btw, I love the scent of it.. Very manly, but does fade away a few seconds after applying, so don’t worry, you won’t end up smelling like a man all day
CATRICE Illuminating Blush in Coral Me Maybe
I can’t remember if I mentioned this in a previous favorites but anyway!

It’s really 1 of my top blush picks

It gives such a gorgeous colour and finish to the cheeks

It’s not too orange and not too pink, just my kinda colour
CATRICE High Glow Mineral Highlighting Powder in Light Infusion
Clearly CATRICE never fails to impress me

And they seem to really be stepping up their game with their new launches
This highlighter is great value for money. Definitely 1 of the best from the “drugstore”

It’s baked so it has a smooth feel to it

You get a lot of product in the pan as well
The only downside to this is the shade, I don’t think anyone with a medium skintone or darker can pull this off because it has an almost white sheen to it
Thankfully it suits my skintone just fine and I find it really flattering on me
Here’s a pic of some swatches of the blush and highlighter, taken with flash so you can see the reflect/sheen much better

Essence Eye Sorbet in 02 Illuminating Raspberry
I picked this up in a SALE basket at Dischem for only R20!

(I think because it was labeled incorrectly, it has another shade name underneath)

This is such a beautiful product

Perfect to add some oomph to your eye look

It’s basically a gel-cream with loads of glitter
My favorite way of using it is by popping some on my inner corner

But I imagine it to look stunning all over the lid for a function/special occasion

I’m also keen to check out some of the other shades available

Here’s a little swatch of the Eye Sorbet

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara
Omg I’ll be honest and say that from the 1st time I tried this, I was completely blown away!

The claim of this mascara creating a fluttery and voluminous look is 100% true

I wasn’t surprised because I’ve seen loads of beauty gurus love this mascara and I know it’s a firm favorite/holy grail of many others

Well done Maybelline, another amazing mascara
ELF Gel Eyeliner
I’ve had this for over a year before actually using it
Lol funny story…

It was stuck! For the life of me I just could not open the damn jar!

Finally after months and months, when I was on holiday at my mums place, I asked my brother to open it for me and he did 😁 thank you bro 😉

This liner is bomb! Once it sets, it’s budge proof

It’s super pigmented and black, it’s also soft and really easy to work with, it glides on well and so you don’t end up tugging at your eyelid

BTW I now prefer using my LA Girl gel liner in my waterline and to tight line and this on my upper lash line
That’s it…

I haven’t tried out loads of products these past few months and I’ve just been going back to the ones I know and love.

There are a few more products I’ve been living but I’ve mentioned them before and didn’t wanna repeat too much
Hope you guys enjoyed this post

Please like and share and subscribe to the blog

DIY Natural Deodrant/Antiperspirant

Hey guys!
So this might not be of interest to some, while others might really appreciate this post.

I’ve seen posts/DIY’s just like this in the past but never actually read through them and felt like its something I would never do!

I’ve been using antiperspirants for around 10 years I wanna say, maybe even longer.

I started using it because they encouraged it in school, you know, no one wants to be sweaty and smelly after PE or sit next to anyone smelly Lol

So anyway, school taught us about hygiene and keeping yourself fresh.

I guess if it wasn’t for that, I probably would have never started using it.

My mum and sisters don’t, they hardly sweat and if they do, don’t smell.

I’m not sure if it’s just me or if the use of antiperspirants made me as such, but I sweat, and my sweat can get smelly.

Gross I know, but I’m human.

But this is why I wanted to do this post, maybe I can help someone somehow.
So as mentioned, a few months ago I started thinking whether me using antiperspirants made it such that the more I used it, the more I needed to.

And I was actually at my wits end with how dry and uncomfortable my underarms were. They would itch like crazy for a few days after waxing, they were always dry, and sometimes at the end of the day had a weird smell, I guess the deodorant mixed in with my sweat kinda caused that.

I was happy that I stayed dry all day and I had no actual problems with getting sweaty and smelly.

But it’s the other factors I mentioned that started bugging me, not forgetting some of my clothing would get stained and damaged in the underarm area.

I notice this with my husbands clothes too.
So here’s how my journey to making my own deodorant began…

At this point I was already using a magnesium oil spray on my body but applied it to my forearms.

I then came across articles saying that it gets absorbed faster and better when applied under the arms and also serves as a deodorant.

So I gave it a shot.

I was pleased that I stayed dry most of the day and didn’t experience any odour.
I continued doing this and skipping my usual antiperspirants all together.

But this is where it gets tricky.

I guess because antiperspirants actually block your pores and don’t allow any oils/sweat to come through, it sort of builds up in your system, which is not good! The skin in the area doesn’t get a chance to breathe at all.

And so when you start using this natural deodorant, the skin detoxes itself and releases whatever was stuck inside.

And I’m mentioning this so if you decide to switch to this natural method, you know what to expect and prepare for it.

You will go through a few weeks of feeling sweaty and you might even have an odour, but just power through and it will all come to an end soon.

All you need to do is carry some of your DIY deodorant with you and reapply when you feel the need, you can even keep some antibacterial wet wipes and use that to wipe yourself before applying your deodorant, and maybe some baby powder as well just to freshen up and stay dry.

But as I mentioned, your body will adjust and settle in no time.

Mine did and I’ve never been happier, my underarms are smooth and soft, I don’t get sweaty or smelly and I’m at peace knowing I’m not harming my body with nasty chemicals.
Now onto the DIY

DIY Deodrant – Pic credit: greatist.com

You will need just 3 ingredients!

• Coconut oil

• Bicarbonate of soda / Baking Soda

• Cornstarch or Arrowroot powder

Optional- You can also add in some essential oils for a fresh scent and added benefits
I will mention that the 1st time I made this  I didn’t use coconut oil coz I didn’t have any at that time, so I used my facial oil Lol

Worked well though.

Just mix equal portions of bicarb and arrowroot/cornstarch (mazeina)

Then slowly mix in your oil, little by little until you get a smooth paste.

It should be funny but not super thick either.

Mix it up well and store in jar.

To use, scoop some out and warm up between your finger before applying to clean, dry underarms. Just massage it in.
The bicarb is amazing at absorbing odour and the arrowroot/cornstarch absorb oils so you stay dry.

Coconut oil will keep your skin nourished and because of it’s antibacterial properties, will keep odours at bay.
I hope this post was helpful, I look forward to reading your thoughts, comment back if you’ve tried this or would wanna try it.
Stay fresh!
