Updated Skincare Routine

Hi guys!
It’s been a hot minute since we posted!

This year I promise to put more effort into the blog, I’ve recently had some more free time on my hands and hopefully I can get some creative writing up for you guys!
I’m so excited to announce that this post is in collaboration with a fellow beauty blogger, Raeesa, from Style Unboxed
We also have another collab post coming soon, so keep your eyes peeled

You can also find Raeesa’s blog and Instagram deets linked at the end of the post, so be sure to check out her post for her skincare routine, as well as her other awesome posts!

Give her a follow on Instagram, she currently has a huge giveaway running and you can win some cool stuff, including a Vintage Beauty hamper 😉
On to the post!
I’ve waited a while before posting my updated skincare routine because, as you guys know, I love trying out new stuff

But over the past year, I’ve been consistent and I’ve figured out what my skin loves and needs to stay clear and healthy
Along with my routine, I’ve also shared some tips and tricks that I’ve discovered along the way and really work for me
To find out what that is, keep reading!

So every evening I remove my makeup (if I’m wearing any) as early as possible, I don’t wait for bedtime, and I use my Vintage Beauty Cold Cream
I slather some on, massage it in and then use a tissue to wipe off
Later on, when I’m getting ready for bed, I’ve been switching between the Liyary Beldi Black soap and Pretycin soap
Both work well to remove excess dirt and oil and leave the skin feeling squeaky clean!

A few times a week I will also use my Foreo Luna Mini device to deep clean

Next I follow with a douse of Vintage Beauty Facial Tonic
Once it’s semi dry, I follow with some Betahydroxy Gel by Creme Classique

(This is a fairly new addition but I’ve used a different AHA/BHA gel from Janssen Cosmetics before this)
After a few minutes I apply my Vintage Beauty Rejuvenating Eye Cream and some Cold Cream
My morning routine is quite similar, except that I Use the Vintage Beauty 3 in 1 Facial Polish to cleanse with

The rest of my routine is the same as my night routine, but as a last step, I follow with a sunscreen

The 1 I’ve been using and loving is also from Creme Classique, it’s their Safari moisturizing sunscreen SPF40

It’s quite moisturizing but not greasy at all! It just absorbs into the skin so well

I also just wanna share some tips and tricks which I think work well for me in maintaining a clear, healthy complexion.
1stly… using an oil based makeup remover, such as VB cold cream is excellent to break down makeup and completely clean it out from the pores

Also, double cleansing ensures all makeup, dirt and impurities are removed, anything left behind can cause breakouts
Also, by using the cold cream, my skin is kept smooth and hydrated, not stripping the skin of its natural oils
2ndly… using an AHA or BHA treatment daily or a few times a week not only helps to keep breakouts at bay, but also makes existing 1s go away faster and fades scarring faster
As some of you may know, since I’ve mentioned it a thousand times before, I suffer with comedonal acne, which means I often get clogged pores/congested skin

The AHA/BHA exfoliates the skin both deep down and on the surface which prevents the pores from getting clogged

And I’ve noticed a significant improvement in the smoothness of my skin
I love to use clay masks weekly, as well as sheet masks every so often (my favorite are from Shades of Mink)

It just depends on how my skin is feeling and looking
Another trick I love doing which makes all the difference in my skin is using the VB Cold Cream as a mask

Then using a hot wash cloth to steamy face and wipe away
Doing this leaves my skin looking so smooth and soft and has a noticeable glow for days after

It’s definitely also helps in deep cleaning the pores

I also like to do this before applying a clay mask,

The cold cream loosen dirt and clogged pores and then the clay mask pulls it all out

And you’re left with clear and healthy skin
As we all know, to slay with a flawless face of makeup, you need to take care of your skin and slay the skincare game

Then only will your makeup apply and look better than ever
And that will be our next post, we’ll be sharing our updated daily makeup routines with you guys, including some tips and tricks to slay your makeup game!

So stay tuned for that! 😉
Hope you guys enjoyed this post, don’t forget to heck put Raeesa’s post as well and show her some love
Stay Beautiful

Current Beauty Favorites

Hey beauties!
I purposely skipped last months “monthly” favorites post coz most of the stuff I was enjoying I only started used like halfway through the month and didn’t want to post about it knowing that I haven’t tested it out long enough to call it a “favorite”

So I decided it be best to combine it all and compile and “current favorites”

So he warned, some of these stuff might have already been mentioned before.
Let’s start with skincare

Avon ClearSkin Professional- Clarifying Toner Pads

I have been obsessed with chemical exfoliants, they work really well on my skin and these toner pads from Avon are just amazing! They’re really affordable at R92 for 45 pads, and they contain both glycolic and salicylic acids
I only use them once a day, in the evenings and they do a great job at keeping my skin texture smooth and my pores clear

The next product is a staple in my routine and I really can’t live without since introducing it into my routine.

Vintage Beauty Facial Tonic
Featured here is the Revitalizing scent, I also do use and love the Invigorating one as well

I use it after cleansing, as a toner, as a primer before makeup and to set my makeup when I’m done

I also use it throughout the day to refresh my skin.

It’s really soothing and refreshing. It works great to prep skin before moisturizer if you have dry skin and really locks in the goodness.

Bioderma Sensibio Micellar Water
I received these as a gift with purchase when I ordered online from Cosmetiques De France

I’ve only ever tried the Garnier Micellar water and while I did love it, it got replaced by my Vintage Beauty Cold Cream.

I like keeping this to quickly remove my makeup when I need to makeup wudhu (ablution)

It’s quick and easy and gets the job done really well.
Now onto makeup 😁

Let’s start with face/base products

NYX Angel Veil Primer
I’ve recently fallen in love with this all over again!

It’s so smoothing and moisturizing to the skin, a great primer for my fellow dry skinned ladies out there.

It does have some silicone in it but doesn’t feel slippery on the skin and definitely doesn’t dry the skin out like some other pore minimizing primers can do.

I’m not sure if this is available in SA yet, haven’t been to a NYX stand in a while, I got mine from Feelunique.com

Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation and Rimmel Lasting Finish foundation

I’ve already mentioned the Bourjois foundation in a previous favorites so I won’t go into in much, I did however buy a mother shade, a shade lighter in 51 Light Vanilla, as far as I know this is only available online from Cosmetiques de France as I’ve only seen the shade 52 and up in store
As for the Rimmel foundation, a new gem in my ever growing foundation collection

I really love this 1. I wanna do a full review on it, so look out for that.

It’s a satin/demi-matte finish. Lasts so long on the skin and looks so good and fresh all day!

It really smooths the skin and minimizes the look of my pores. I absolutely love it and will be repurchasing soon. It’s really inexpensive as well, so that’s a bonus!

*note, I do add yellow colouring to my foundations so that they match me better. Both foundations mentioned above have been adjusted

Cala Makeup Blending sponge

After seeing a few local beauty bloggers rave about this sponge, I decided to pick up 1 for myself.
1st impressions, I was impressed that it was quite soft and squishy and not too dense.

After using it for quite some time, I can say I am really happy with my purchase, it works well to blend foundation and concealer into the skin and leave a flawless finish. I’m gonna be doing a “beauty sponge comparison” post soon, I’m just waiting on my Real Techniques sponge that I ordered to arrive.

RCMA No-Color Powder

If you have dry skin – Get this!
If you have oily skin – Get this!

If you love “baking” – Get this!

If you’re a makeup artist – You NEED this!

This is the best loose powder I’ve tried yet.

It works so well to set the face and for baking. It’s no wonder all the YouTubers have been loving and raving about this.

I got mine from Muse Beauty on Instagram, but I’ve seen a few other online retailers sell it as well. All of them are priced more or less the same.

CATRICE Made to Stay Smoothing Lip Polish 08 What’s your Atti-Nude

This has pretty much been the only lip product I’ve been using for the past few weeks, no lies.

It really does smooth the lips and gives a natural colour to it, like a “my lips but better”

And it does sort of dry down but doesn’t dry the lips or look dry, if that makes sense.

Also, once it wears off, it leaves a tint on the lips, almost like a bitten kinda look. I love it!

Avon Supershock mascara and MaxFactor False Lash Effect mascara

I’m sure you all know that this Avon mascara is like holy grail status for me. And this Max Factor 1 is pretty awesome as well! But the 2 of them layered 🙏🏼 omg! Someone actually asked me if I was wearing false lashes!

The result: super long, separated, full, luscious lashes! Nuff said!
LA Girl Gel liner in Dark Brown and E.L.F Cream Eyeliner in Black

I’ve been into Gel liners, can you tell??

I use them both on the inner waterline as well as on the lash line for winged liner.

They’re both equally pigmented, they glide on really well and stay all day.

My LA girl Gel liner in black has started to dry up so I started using the ELF 1 and I really love it.

Max Factor Creme Puff blushes and Bourjois Chocolate Bronzing powder

I got these because of the constant raves from the lovely ladies fromAll Dolled Up

And they did not disappoint! I have the shades 01 Nude Mauve, 05 Lovely Pink and 30 Gorgeous Berries

They have a lively sheen to them without looking chunky and glittery, they are really pigmented as well and the look so gorgeous on the cheeks!

They are a little pricey for a “drugstore” products, so I waited for a 3 for 2 sale on Cosmetiques de France and then snatched them 😉

As for the Bourjois bronzer, I finally found a bronzer that looks good on my skin. Warms up the complexion without looking muddy or orange. Its a matte powder but does have some glitter through it but doesn’t really show up as shimmery or glittery on the skin, so it’s pretty much matte to me.

It’s not overly pigmented to where you have to watch how much you apply but it’s not poorly pigmented either, does that make sense?

Anyway I’ve been really loving it.

Did I mention it smells so yummy?!

Saved the best for last 😉 highlighters

City Colors Highlight Trio, Physicians Formula Shimmer strips in Warm Nude and Essence Eyeshadow in 01 Snowflake

1st of all, all of these are recommendations from Thataylaa on YouTube

I got the City Color 1 from Muse Beauty

These 3 have just been in my rotation for the past 2 months or so

I don’t use any other highlighters. They are all very finely milled and look very smooth in the skin, not shimmery or glittery at all, which is just my kinda highlight

My favorite way to apply highlighter is wet, as to not destroy the powder in the pan, I 1st pick up some product on my brush and then spritz the brush with a makeup spray and apply

I use the Vintage Beauty Facial Tonic, any makeup setting spray will work, such as MAC Fix +
Doing this intensifies the pigment and makes the highlight sort of melt into the skin rather than sit on top of it.

That’s it for my current favorite products! Shew that was long 1!

I hope you guys enjoyed the post and gave you some insight on products you were maybe contemplating on whether or not to buy.

If you guys have any post suggestions, leave a comment below.

I’d also love to know what are your current favorites so drop me a comment and let me know 😊

Introduction to AND Review of Vintage Beauty

Hey beauties
So as promised, I’m updating you guys on my skincare line, Vintage Beauty.

And I’m also gonna add in a little review as well as some feedback I’ve received from customers so far.
Let’s start from the beginning and go into how it all started.

I’ll be honest and say I’m not exactly sure where and how I came across it but ever since 1st discovering “cold cream”, I started digging and doing research, loads of research! That’s just me, I get obsessive when learning about or wanting to try new products.

And I feel that’s my duty, as a blogger, to gather info so that I can share it with my readers!
So that’s where it all started, I was really intrigued with the whole concept of cold cream and from almost all the reviews I’ve read, people have claimed cold cream to be a total game changer for their skin.

Not only because it’s so versatile and literally the only skincare item you need in your life, but because it really works.
Another thing I learned was that cold cream is a really “old” skincare secret, it was way more popular like 30 +years ago, even though it’s been around for much much longer than that, and from what I’ve read, lots of ladies say they’ve seen their grandmothers using cold cream and their skin was flawless and wrinkle free, as “mature” as they were 😉
So that’s the inspiration behind the name Vintage Beauty.

Inspired by this vintage skincare secret.
After gathering all the info I possibly could, I decided to make my own, but I was a little skeptical, you know, scared I might just mess it all up and there goes all my money and work down the drain.
So I put it off for a while until 1 day, I had a light bulb moment. I decided to ask my friend, who’s a biochemist. She actually makes some of the LiyaRy products and she hooks me up with my LiyaRy fix 😉 so I always kept in touch with her.
When I asked her if she could make it for me she knew exactly what I was talking about and said she would do it.
So since I just wanted to try it out for myself, she made a small batch.

I had read so much about it and I was hoping to see miracles, just as so many others had, but I was also kinda scared, oil cleansers haven’t worked that well for me in the past.
But all I can say is wow! It was love at 1st use.

Immediately after getting it, I used it around my eye and nose area coz that’s where I get really dry.

I felt a difference within the same day.
Mariam also took some from me and started using it. The next day when I saw her she was so happy and said she used it as an overnight mask and she loved how her skin looked and felt in the morning, and it didn’t irritate or react to her super sensitive, oily and acne prone skin.

I didn’t react to it or get clogged pores, in fact, it actually loosened my clogged pores allowing them to be extracted with ease.
That’s when I knew I had to to share this with the rest of South Africa, I haven’t come across a cold cream this side, I know it’s a lot more widely available in the US and UK.

And seriously I’m not just tooting my own horn, this stuff is amazing and so I wanted others to experience this magical cream.

Vintage Beauty Cold Cream

So what exactly is cold cream?

Cold cream is a highly emollient cream which is made from a blend of oils and water, emulsified together, giving you a super hydrating cream, which is mostly used to deep cleanse the skin, while softening it.
I just want to brag about how it melts makeup so effortlessly!

And this is my favorite way of using it, as a cleansing balm sort of thing.

It can either be used as step 1 (makeup remover) of a 2 step cleanse or as a cleanser on its own, without following up with another cleanser.
I use it both ways, sometimes I follow up with my LiyaRy beldi soap and other times I just use this on its own.
Like any oil cleanser/ hot cloth cleanser/ cleansing balm, you massage it onto dry skin, working it into the skin with your fingertips, then use a hot, damp face cloth to steam the face and wipe away the product along with makeup and dirt.

Your skin is left feeling squeaky clean yet so soft and moisturized.
I can’t begin to say how amazing this is for dry/dehydrated skin. Which is my skin type, like I’ve mentioned a thousand and 1 times before…..

But honestly, my skin is soooo soft and smooth and has a healthy glow, literally.
Customers with normal to oily skin have said they find it too rich and greasy for day time, especially with this heat, and so they prefer to use it at night only.

While others like myself with dry skin, can get away using it day and night.

I personally love it as a makeup base, it’s the perfect “primer” if you wanna use a foundation that’s more matte or 1 you find drying, this way, the cream really hydrates the skin, keeping your makeup looking fresh and allows makeup to sit comfortably on the skin.
So I’d say this is going to be a winner for anyone and everyone come Autumn/Winter when everything starts to dry up.
This is the ideal cream for aging skin, my mum and aunt love it, and I’ve had a lovely lady call me asking about it saying she’s 47, has dry skin, suffers with hormonal breakouts and has scars left behind and also is concerned about fine lines and wrinkles.

After a 2 minute chat telling her about the cream and how it works she was convinced, ordered her jar of this magical cream and got it the next day.
2 days later she messaged me and said she loves it, she has already noticed a difference in her skins appearance and texture.
I, personally as well as a few family members have noticed that breakouts clear up faster and scarring left behind is minimal, also old existing scars seems to be lightening by the day.
So I’ve started off with 1 formula which I’ve named “Nourishing”

I’d say it’s suitable for all skin types, but best for dry-mature skin though.

This specific formula is infused with Shea Butter, Argan Oil, Rosehip Oil, French Rose Water and Geranium Oil.

I must add, it’s made with mostly natural ingredients however it isn’t 100% natural, however it doesn’t contain any artificial fragrances or harsh chemicals or actually anything that is gonna be harmful to your skin or health!
Also, I am working on a formula which will be lighter, yet equally hydrating, and more suitable for those with oily skin.

I will keep you guys updated on that, be sure to follow @VintageBeautySA on Instagram to be kept in the loop with regards to that as well as any other news.
My cold cream is available to purchase from myself, it retails for R150 and you get 200ml of product, which is A LOT!

A little goes a long way and I’d say it will last you a month, if not longer.
To order or to find out more about Vintage Beauty cold cream you can leave a comment or email makeupastorm@gmail.com or vintagebeautySA@gmail.com
I hope you guys enjoyed this post, I loved writing it! 😁

I look forward to you guys feedback!

2015 Skincare Favourites

Ok so this took longer than expected to get up.
I even thought of skipping it but I knew I had to, 2015 has been the year of skincare for me.

And because I tried a lot of stuff, on the contrary, I didn’t, I actually found something that works for my skin!

2015 Skincare Favourites – Makeupastorm

So we’ll start of with that.

Btw this is a combined favourites, we both have been loving all these products.
The best discovery we made was

LiyaRy

The entire range is amazing.

Not to mention all completely natural.

The range we use/featured is called the Hammam Collection.

I’ve done numerous posts about this range going in depth about each product so just search for LiyaRy on the blog search bar and all the posts will come up.
But all I’ll say is that this has worked like nothing else, especially for me, Fatima. There was a brief moment where I stopped using it and my skin started acting up, immediately after starting again it calmed down and cleared up.
Honestly throughout this year, my skin has been the best it’s been since probably before I was a teen, when my started breaking out and stuff.
This has cleared up my problematic skin and kept it clear, again, it’s all natural so I’m not scared that my skin is being overloaded with chemicals.
Clarisonic

The Clarisonic has been another help throughout the year, I honestly do think it makes a difference in my skin, I was thinking of doing another update soon, I only use it a few times a week, depending on how my skin feels, and it just gives it a boost.

My skin feels super clean, refreshed and polished and I can definitely feel and see the difference when I don’t use it for a long time.

I’ve been using the Deep Pore brush head for the past couple of months and I love it even more, I can tell a difference between this and the other brush head I used before, which was the sensitive 1.
Thermal Water sprays

This is a general favourite, not necessarily this brand.

At the moment I’m using the one from Uriage but I’ve used the Avène one as well and I love that one, more than this 1, however they all perform similarly.

It’s just refreshing and handy to have, I won’t say it’s a must.

I often use it as a sort of toner, after cleansing, but sometimes I also use it as a refreshing spray throughout the day and after makeup application.
Tea Tree Oil

This has been a savior when it comes to pimples and breakouts. I’ve featured it in a monthly favorites post as well.

Really helps prevent pimples from popping up and clearing existing ones faster.

Again, all natural and super inexpensive.
Facial Oils

In the past year or 2, facial oils have become a firm part of our routines.

We used Carrier oils on their own, such as Rosehip oil and Argan oil, mixed in with essential oils and also oils blends.

At the moment I’m using an oil blend, custom blended by me, it has a mix of rosehip, Argan, chamomile, calendula, lavender and 1 or 2 others.

I’ve also gone through the revitalizing oil from The Body Shop Oils of Life range and loved it. I just found it abit too pricey, considering you only get 30ml of product, that’s why I decided to blend my own.
The moisturizer from the Body Shop Oils of Life range was great too but not outstanding, which I actually did find something which has rocked my boat 😀

It will be released in my next post, January Favourites.

Hint… It’s a skincare product I created 😉

If you follow us on Instagram, you’ll know what I’m talking about.
Garnier Micellar Water

Ok even though I rarely use this anymore, thanks to my own invention, Vintage Beauty, I loved it when I did use it.

It’s amazing at getting off all makeup and doesn’t irritate my skin or eyes.

Again, affordable and you get a lot of product.

It’s fuss free and easy to use, perfect for lazy days, you can remove your makeup in bed!

I currently have the Original (pink) bottle but I first tried the Pure Active (blue) one and I think I like that one a little more.

I just find it more gentle.
Sudocrem

This is a gem of a discovery, I use it as a spot treatment and after I’ve extracted to prevent bacteria from spreading and soothe the area, thus preventing breakouts.

I have a full post up about this, it’s the best beauty hack post, more details on how I use it on there.
Skin Strategy face masks

These are sheet masks and are exclusively available at Dischem, and they are u see R15!

I honestly can’t understand how this mask has such amazing ingredients, works just as amazing and has a price tag so low!

These are the 1st sheet masks We’ve ever tried, and they got me wanting more. We’ve repurchased them twice now, not pictured here, but the Rejuvenating mask is our favourite, it’s slightly more expensive than these other 2 because it also includes a sort of serum that you use after the mask. And OMG that mask is the bomb!

It really works!

I think everyone should give these masks a try, considering how cheap they are, you won’t be losing anything if they don’t work for you.
Avène Very High Protection Emulsion SPF 50

This is probably the best facial sunscreen I’ve ever used, I’ve only tried one other one before but this is amazing. It’s not greasy like most sunscreens, it’s not heavy, absorbs well, feels almost velvety on the skin, doesn’t leaves white cast and doesn’t clog pores!

What more could I possibly ask for?
DIY Vitamin C Serum

Last but not least I have to mention this, it has been a great discovery, my skin loves it and it works for me, full review is on the blog, check our previous post.
I think that’s it.

Be sure to keep an eye out on the January Favourites post to know more about my skincare line, Vintage Beauty 🙂
